Tomorrow is our second wedding anniversary. According to some entirely unreliable source and some totally bogus tradition, that makes it our cotton anniversary. Although cotton lacks some of the whatsit of the gold, silver or diamond anniversaries--and dudes, you'd better believe that if we make it to our sixtieth anniversary, this nonagenarian and centenarian will be rocking the bling--it's not actually that hard to come up with gift ideas involving cotton. There are plenty of options. It's just that they all suck.
Blah blah, shirts, blah blah, sheets. Blah blah, towels. I'm trying to think big here, people! A bale of cotton? A cotton gin? The collected works of Cotton Mather?
Help a girl out. What's the awesomest cotton-themed gift you can imagine?

For anniversary #2, my first spouse gave me a t-shirt from my fave sports team, signed my its starting lineup.

We went with the contemporary gift: porcelain (note: my husband is a potter, so that was easy).

I do love me some linens. But sheets wear out so fast that I'm really a best-thing-I-can-find-at-T.J.Maxx kind of girl myself. (And we're all set with both casual and formal table linens.)

As with the linens, I'm really the ideal recipient--rather than my spouse--for stationery, and I already have some gorgeous 100% cotton personalized stationery (so much of it, actually, that our address had better not change soon!).
But it's a great idea, which I'll keep in mind for anyone else in the market for a 2nd anny present.
If it were me... I'd want my spouse to buy me gorgeous soft expensive cotton yarn... and then I'd use it to knit him a pair of lovely and totally frivolous socks. Which either means I'm cheap (I'd be all set with spending the time to knit the socks) or totally sentimental. Oh, and also a knitter.
