It took one of my cats dying to fully embrace being That Academic Lady. Embrace it! And, I agree with others -- one little framed picture? that's nothing!!
If it helps at all, I tend to keep pictures of other people's cats around. Because I don't have one of my own. They're not framed, but I think it's pathetic enough as is.
And what's wrong with that? she asks, nervously looking at the TWO framed pictures of her cats and the screensaver of her dog, and nary a picture of her human companion in sight ...
I was in Philly's Italian Market district a year or two ago and walked by a butcher shop that was selling taxidermied deer heads for $40. I came very, very close to buying one and mounting it on my office wall. I figured if I mounted it behind my desk, any students who came to talk to me would see a deer head looming above.
Miltonista: ohh! I so want a taxidermied owl. Though I'd have a hard time deciding whether it belonged in my home or my office.
And for what it's worth: the cat photo is not oriented so students can see it. They get, instead, a nice view of the human skull (plastic, but pretty realistic) sitting on the bookshelf just behind and to the right of my head.

My kitties are my screen-saver on the work computer. Everyone always compliments me on their handsomeness :)

Is the photo in a cat-shaped frame? If not, and if you don't keep an afghan over your lap, I think you're good.
