Ooh, fame!

In the past week I've received copies of two different journals in which my work is referenced or cited.

In one case, it's scholarship I've written under my own name.

In the other, it's this-here pseudonymous blog.*

I'll let you guess which of the two journals has the (almost infinitely) larger readership.

Whatever, dudes. I'm pretty pleased by both.

*Special shout-out to the reader who alerted me to this reference--I just got my copy in the mail today.

Impressive on both counts -- you should be pleased.

Way cool! Did a friend send you the copy of the academic journal? Or did the journal sned it to you?

Is that a stupid question?

Maybe.

MW: oh, that's a good question. No, I subscribe to both jounals as a member of the relevant organizations. The one in which it's my scholarship that's cited is quite specialized, and since the essay was on a very understudied work (and since I knew its author had liked my essay on the same work), I was pretty sure I'd be cited. So, I skimmed the notes before actually reading the article--THAT's how vain I am.

The other journal is the MLA's annual Profession, which (unlike PMLA) I always enjoy reading--but it might have taken me weeks or months to discover the reference to my blog had not a reader emailed me a couple of days ago and told me about it.

Thanks guys!

It just goes to show that You Never Know who's reading your blog (a fact that's freaking me out a little bit, actually).

AW: end of the Waters essay.

that is SO cool. i like that you and all of your "interlocuters" face tough odds head on & that "it is worth the world!"

very sweet--i concur, you are a particularly inspiring "young" academic. it is comforting somehow to know that blogs like yours are read and considered thoughtfully, rather than as the trash we waste our time with, as they are often perceived.

just got my hands on _profession_: how massive are you?! whatever the other citation may be, this one is far, far cooler.

Oh, that Lindsay Waters -- whatta blog-namedropper he is. But he does have impeccable taste in blogs, I see.

Seriously, Flavia, congratulations on the Ferule & Fescue Fame! And a shout out to your interlocutors, too.

And you're the only one he mentions, too! Congrats!
