Speaking of distracting students. . .
I have a woman in one of my classes this semester who's a cheerleader for an NFL team. As you might expect, she's pretty much unbearably hot. In fact, other than
Starlet Star, I think I've never encountered this degree of 20-something female hotness up close and personal before.
And dudes, if it's this distracting for
me, I pity her hetero male instructors.

I once had a VERY pretty woman in one of my classes in LaLaLand (where hotness is de rigeur), and though she wasn't quite on the level of NFL cheerleader distraction (she was fairly professional in dress and not super-ornamented or made up), she was pretty incredibly lovely. She had a Halle-Berry-without-makeup beauty. And on top of all that, she had...how shall I say this?...a *perfect* rack. And the fit of her clothes emphasized this in a tasteful but nevertheless attention-drawing way.
Anyway, I say all of this to demonstrate that I, too, was distracted by her hotness and the perfection of her secondary sexual characteristics. And *that* finally convinced me that "the gaze" is indeed male and that I've learned to look at all women, including myself, through that gaze. I thought I had escaped it and reinvented it, but this woman made me realize how much I was kidding myself.
It was one of those "click" moments.

YES! That's exactly it, Dr. V., and that's a contributory factor to my distraction.

I pity her hetero male instructors.
Probably her classmates, too. It must be hard for teenagers to concentrate with her around.

What is it with the good-looking students this year? I've got a female student who looks just like Keri Russell in her Felicity days and she is adorable - not hot but dimples, hair, blue eyes, bubbly personality, the works. She doesn't dress to impress for class but I've seen pictures of her in formal get-up and she is stunning.

I suppose it would be wrong to ask her to wear the sequined bra to class. Maybe this is why I did not get hired in the NFL cities where I interviewed....

We have many athletes in our school who are both extremely fit and beautiful. It's rather interesting to watch the wake they develop walking down the main hallway when people stop and turn to gape. Fortunately (or not), they rarely take history courses so I don't get to observe their impact on the class.

TR: probably. Although I did go to the cheer squad's webpage, and clicked on her "bio"--which consisted, like those for all the other women, of nothing but her first name and a photo--and so got to see at least an image of her in her uniform. My stars!

I teach in Miami where belly baring and low cut tops with short shorts and heels are de riguer (sp?) Honestly, I don't know how the male profs get anything done.
